I did a dry dc, scalp invigorator and then cowashed. I just bunned and tucked until Friday. Friday evening I did a "straight" regimen wash and then blow dried and flat ironed. Didn't even take pics, b/c nothing special happened.These weeks were such a blur. I'll post my failed flexi rod set and my straight look for one day was on my anniversary evening only.

I am no longer using HairVeda Whipped Clouds to moisturize or seal my hair because no matter how little or how I use it, it's too heavy. I now use Hair Veda Whipped (Baggy) Cream, I love it. This unlike any of my other moisturizers leave my hair moisturized even if I am wearing a braid out or a bun. My ends at no point were crispy, nor did I need to m&s daily. This is great. I don't even want to try the rest, but we'll see. The only problem with this product line is availability. I would have to order two at a time because I hear stories about long waits and the store being closed due to high volume of orders, some wake up at all hours of the night just to get HV products. I could definitely see a product like this being my one and only moisturizer. To me, it beats both NTM Silk Touch and dare I say it, Elasta QP Mango Butter. We'll see, 2 more weeks before and official review.

It Was Our Anniversary....

So here's what I wore:

I tried with the makeup, don't laugh I'm getting better.

We went to a little jazz club. It was really nice. I don't go to teeny-bopper clubs, I don't go out at all, but the hubby and I wanted to do something different. I'm going to rewind it back a little bit, give you a little history. My hubby and I have been together for 8 yrs total, 2 years married. This week has been rough for us and now in retrospect, the devil knew this. At the beginning of the week we were thinking this would be the last anniversary that we would celebrate. We joked about it, but we were kind of serious. We were getting on each others' nerves like crazy. I didn't want to go anywhere with him just to sit and be uncomfortable, turns out his feelings were mutual. By Friday, we got it together. We talked a little. We ended up having a great time.

We dropped kids off at baby sitter's house. We then went to go see Alice and Wonderland, well no surprise here. It was sold out from 6:45p until 12am showing. So we'll catch it later on down the line. We went home and started the "beautification process" and headed around the town. This part we free-lanced b/c we knew we weren't hungry but we wanted to enjoy the night life here in Fort Worth. We headed down town, nothing interesting there. Hubby remembered a club that he sees packed all the time while riding through Dallas. I hate Dallas with a passion, but anyway, went to Brooklyn Jazz club(http://www.brooklynjazzcafe.com/_) and it was amazing. There was a local band playing. It was laid back and relaxed. People were enjoying each other it was great. Music wasn't too loud. No disrespect anywhere. Unusual for me, I've only been out twice since I turned 21 and I'm 24 now and each club was wild and someone would always end up fighting. Well not here, this was grown and sexy all the way. I got a fruity little something, don't know the name, hubby ordered the lightest beverage they had and he had his usual Remy 1738. (By the way, I purchased him some Remy for his b-day and I had no idea it was this expensive. This is the only thing he ever drinks, and I've never bought it before. He keeps at least one bottle in the house at all times, but whoooot $54, he's lucky I has $60 on me at the time. Spansive!!!! )We conversed and for once, in a long, long time, I felt like a woman, a sexy woman being courted. I didn't feel like a "mother" or a "wife", I was being courted and I loved every minute of it. My hubby and I haven't been on a date since my daughter was born in 2003. Now don't misunderstand, I love being a mother and a wife and all that they entail, but those of you who've been here know exactly what I'm talking about.

We've been talking about how much fun we've had since Saturday. I thoroughly enjoyed my husband and it feels good knowing that he did as well. It was just the two of us and I will cherish this moment until the next time. I will definitely plan the next a little better.

Product Review: Aussie Hair Insurance Leave In Spray

Aussie Hair Insurance Leave In Conditioner $3.99 /8 oz

Purchased: Walgreens

Dates of Usage: 1/1/2010- 3/3/2010

Description: Liquid leave-in/spray

Usage: Leave-in spray, to moisten hair before a wet set or other air dried texture style, prior to cornrowing hair

Product Claims:

A true work-a-holic, this leave-in conditioner, accented with Australian Silk Protein, puts it inovertime to keep hair strong.

Directions: Spray into clean, damp hair. Do that thing that you do to your 'do, but don't rinse!

My Experience:

When I first started my hhj I had a brief brush with this product and I liked it. I even recommended it to a few others, but now it seems to do nothing for my hair. I apologize, this is the reason I now use a product for several uses before giving a yes or no. When I say nothing I mean nothing. Sure it helps to moisten the hair but only temporarily. I have to spray so much just for my hair to even feel damp. I would spray this on my hair and it wouldn't help with detangling at all. It did nothing for my children's natural hair either. I couldn't wait to get rid of this spray. Glad I tried it, especially happy I used it up.

The only things I like about this product are the scent and the purple spray bottle. I love purple.

STAPLE STATUS: ABSOLUTELY NO!!!!

Ingredients:Water, Amodimethicone, Cetrimonium Chloride, Trieceth-12, Polyquaternium-11, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PPG-2 Methyl Ether, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance, Disodiu EDTA, Polysorbate 80, Aminomethyl Propanol, Citric Acid, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Silk Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice

DISCLAIMER- I am in no way affiliated with any of the aforementioned products. Do not rinse.

My Experience:
Initially after application of this product it seemed to make my hair smooth and soft. It was instrumental in helping me air dry. It didn't do anything special for me while stretching. I didn't notice my NG any softer or more manageable. After textured styles my hair would feel really dry, this is a big issue of mine. In Texas, the heat is scorching and I need a moisturizer that can at least hold up in the winter. For bunning, my ends stayed moisturized, but if my hair was out this product is too heavy and when I would use it by mid-day my hair would be dry again.I did notice that it seemed quite heavy on my hair before my hair started to thicken up. This is not necessarily a cream leave in that I would recommend for 'fine-haired' people.

The scent is nothing over the top or overwhelming. Very light and doesn't linger. It is a mint green type of color.

I really don't have any complaints, is it the best moisturizer I've tried?, no but it' okay. My only problem is availability. If I gave up all of my moisturizers that I want to try and say this is it, would I have to wonder about it being discontinued as so many of my other Dominican products have been. Product security is also an issue for me. It's an alright product. It kept me satisfied this long, I won't make it a staple, but who knows I may revisit it later on in my journey. It lasted 3 months, most products don't last that long in my house between my hair and my children's.

STAPLE STATUS: NO

Ingredients:
Deionized water, Cetyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, Quaternium-60, Propylene Glycol, Vitamin E, Virgin Olive Oil, Methyl and Benzoate Sodium, Color Green #1, Fragrance.

UP NEXT: HairVeda Whipped Clouds- SheAloe Moisturizer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Silk Elements Mega Cholesterol Conditioning Treatment 20 oz/ $4
PJ Exchange Purchase
Dates of Usage: 1/30/2010- 2/27/2010
Usage: Dry DC , wet dc w/ and w/o heat
Description: Yellow with the consistency of banana pudding. My hair actually felt moisturized and soft. It made my scalp itchy and flaky. I found that this conditioner was too hard for me to rinse from my scalp. My goal when applying a dc is to cover my NG, but not my scalp. When it gets on my scalp it takes forever to rinse.
Plain and simple, my hair LOVES this dc, but my scalp hates it.
This product is only available at Sally Beauty Supply Stores. Once it dried I figured out which half-wig I was going to wear and determined how much leave-out hair I needed. I chose Motown Tress LG-90 (1B, same color as my hair). For this wig due to it's loose S-curl type of waves, I used anywhere from 3-7 curl formers to help with the blending.
I put all the hair that wasn't left out into one or two french braids. I just tucked the ends up into itself, if that makes sense. I would m&s nightly.
Here is another LG-90 post:
http://www.relaxedlongway2grow.com/2009/06/half-wig-motown-tress-lg-90.html
How-to: I would put in a few cf's every night, knowing how to pin curl would eliminate this nightly process. I would blend the curls and put the wig on. I would put in my two "anchor" bobby pins then use a few hair pins in my leave out hair to keep my curls attached/blended with the curls of the wig.
Prep pics:
In Living Color Marathon.... Well, now that I have you thinking about it, let me tell you what I did. I weighed the pros and cons of just going to have a 'look see' and ended up purchasing a few things. Unlike other pj buys, this spurge made me happy. My coworker was able to get a almost a liter of Nexxus shampoo for only $4 so you know I had to go check it out. So here's what I was lucky enough to scoop up.
Nexxus Sublime Volume Conditioner- 13.5 oz $4.80
Rusk Sensories Calm Conditioner- 13.5 oz $3.29
Loreal Ever Pure UV Protect Leave In Spray- 8.5 oz $2.25
bain de terre Peppermint Patty Invigorating Scalp Treatment x3- 4.2 oz $2.97(3)-Really interesting. It is a gel like conditioner that has a brush attached to the cap that gently(or so I hope) exfoliates your scalp and then you follow it with a shampoo. I like the idea of this since I am back to dry dcing every other wash. So we'll see.
Paul Mitchell Hair Repair Treatment 16.9 oz $8.04
Paul Mitchell Color Protect Lock In Spray 16.9 oz $5.25
Matrix Color Smart Luminating System Protective Conditioner x2 51oz $8.04(2)
Paul Mitchell Moisture Super-Charged Moisturizer x3 6.8oz $4.50(3)
Redken Clear Moisture Water Rush x2 8.5 oz $4.50(2)
Paul Mitchell The Rinse 10.14 oz $3.30
Rusk Sensories Smoother Shampoo 13oz $2.70
Samy Fat Hair Thickening Conditioner x2 10 oz $2.40(2)
Rusk Sensories Calm Guarana & Ginger Reconstructor 5.1 oz $3.00
Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave In 6oz $1.80 (Staple)
BEDHEAD Moisture Maniac Conditioner 25.36oz $7.29
BEDHEAD Self-Absorbed Conditioner 8.5 oz $4.20
Rusk Sensories Nourish Kukui & Macadamia Nut Self-Heating Treatment 4.2oz $3.30
Paul Mitchell Strength Super Strong Treatment 6.8 oz $5.40
BEDHEAD Moisture Maniac Conditioner 8.5oz $4.20
Lots of body sprays, hand soaps and massage oils
Now I must admit this was partially a pj move, but why should I pass on this opportunity. Where else could I have gotten deals like these. So I'll be removing my pj rehab ticker, but I walk away from pj rehab with my head held high. I was able to refrain from purchases for a total of 7.5 months. I had just ran out of conditioner and oil to prepoo with so this was right on time. I am also alternating between a shampoo wash and a conditioner wash each week, so again, this is right on time.
Style of the Week: Bantu Knots  2 OF 16
WEEK 2 Bantu Knots
Bantu knots are knots that you make by sectioning your hair and twisting that section around until it coils up similar to a snake coil right before it strikes. You secure it with a ponytail holder, your own hair, a hair/bobby pin or even a rubber band.
With this style I made more of them so the curls were alot tighter than usual. If you want looser waves try fewer knots.
Here is another post that I've done with looser Bantu knots:
http://www.relaxedlongway2grow.com/2008/10/technique-bantu-knots.html
This Wash:
Dry DC- SE Mega Cholesterol Conditioning Treatment 2+ hrs with shower cap- body heat only (exercise and housework)
Leave-Ins- Aussie Hair Insurance, Lady Fior Olive Oil Leave In, Tresemme 24 hr Body Mousse
I air dried with several knots. For nightly upkeep, I would apply oil and moisturizer to my hands, rub them together and gently rub through Bantu knots. I do not manipulate the waves too much. I pinned the sides up and then put on my bonnet. Pinning the sides up towards the crown keeps it from getting smashed or you could pin curls or recoil it nightly, it's up to you.
This is not one of my favorite styles but for the sake of air drying, low manipulation styles, I do it every once in a while. I haven't perfected it, but the braid out and twist out provide the same results and I have truly perfected those.
UP NEXT: HALF-WIG
Style of the Week: Tucked Twist- Up  1 OF 16
This Wash:
Prepoo- V05 Mix
Shampoo- ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo left on for 1-3 min(I always do this post-relaxer)
CHI Infra Shampoo- one lather
DC- CHI Infra Treatment -15 mins with heat/steam
Leave-Ins- Aussie Hair Insurance, Lady Fior Olive Oil Leave In, CHI Silk Infusion.
I airdried and smoothed my hair throughout the process with a boar bristle brush and my hands while it dried.
My hair feels so full and it seems to have strength and elasticity combined. Detangling has become so simple.
This week's style is a twist-up with the ends tucked and clipped under. It is very simple.
How-to: I basically just pull my hair back like I'm about to put it into ponytail. From here I gently twist it upwards and then fold the ends downward. Depending on how large, loose or taut that I want it I pin it directly through and underneath the twist-up. I will use a cute clip or a simple clip, it doesn't really show anyway. I will sometimes where it with a headband but when I part the front I wear it without a headband.
I m+s, then I would put my scarf on at bed time. In the morning, I would just smooth and redo if necessary and I was good to go.
This style keeps my ends protected and it isn't just the usual bun. I like to do low manipulation styles. I kept it really low manipulation this week, though. I was too busy to be creative. This was quick and easy for me.
Next Week: Bantu Knots
Updates: I'm Still Alive and Kicking
Updates:
**Did some damage over at PZI JEANS. I bought 8 pairs, I think. I can't wait to post pics. You should've seen the hubby everytime I showed him a pair he was to busy looking at the “cheeks” of the models inside of the jeans instead of the particular jean styles. Hubby gave me the green light I logged on and lost my mind. I have been wanting to try these jeans forever so you know I'll keep everyone out there in the blogosphere updated.
**Finally purchased the flat boots and a FEW extras from Ami Clubwear. I have been wanting flat boots for about 2 years and I finally got them. I purchased a pair of knee high boots, some peep toe booties and some really cute ankle strap heels. I also got some cute 'underthings' that I'm sure the hubby will enjoy.
**I relaxed my hair about 2 weeks ago with CHI Deep Brilliance Relaxer in Normal. I love it. My hair 2 weeks later is still so shiny and easy to manage. For some reason my hair feels so much fuller and stronger. I couldn't tell if it was the relaxer process, my progress and/or the use of CHI Infra Treatment. Well, whatever it is I am loving how full it feels and looks.
The CHI Deep Brilliance relaxer system is specifically designed for our hair type and is said to allow those who use this relaxer to also color their hair at some point within the same process.
The balance neutralizing poo has color-alert, but it wasn't as thick as my ORS Creamy Aloe so I added it to the process. I burned my scalp, but it's been such a long time since I self-relaxed that I probably should've praticed before I applied the relaxer. All in all, I am happy with the results, but I think I will have a stylist apply it next time.All products I use to relax: CHI Deep Brilliance Scalp Protective Cream, CHI Deep Brilliance Relaxer in Normal, CHI Deep Brilliance Balance Neutralizing Shampoo, ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo, DUO Tex Protein Conditioner(mid-process protein) and SE Cholesterol Conditioner. LeaveIns: AGTK, Chi Silk Infusion and FX Flat Iron Spray which I absolutely love. It doesn't make my hair crispy at all. The best heat-protectant that I've tried and I have tried many.
**I have been working out on schedule. I am feeling results and losing inches. My weight is still the same and that's fine for me because I know that building muscle will increase weight. The big difference is in the way my clothes fit.
**I am still huge into P-styling so you probably won't see a length check until my next relaxer or my wedding anniversary. I will add all of my weekly styles since my styles are all planned thoroughout my 16-week stretch. It helps me stay consistent. It also helps me so I don't keep repeating the same styles over and over again.
Transitioning Into A Healthy Lifestyle
Well, this is actually nothing new for me. Since about August 09 I have been eating differently. I have consumed a lot more fruit and vegetables. I watch my portion sizes. With that being said, I am not one for deprivation. It makes no sense to me. Self control issues are one thing, but to starve yourself with ridiculous diets one after another is foolish. You cheat your body out of the necessary calories and nutrition that it needs just for normal function, just to maintain a level of homeostasis and multiple chemical/cellular reactions throughout the day. I hate diets because again, they are the quick and easy way out. It's like a sure way of failing. Dieting is a set-up. It's a multi-billion dollar conspiracy!!!! Why, because it's a roller coaster. They're very difficult to maintain and if you do lose weight your more than likely, I mean, almost guaranteed to gain it right back because while your dieting your not being shown how to eat the right things. Your normally isolating certain things from your diet. People, think about the vampire movies and maybe this is a horrible analogy, but there is always a good guy who wants to do right and has some type of synthetic solution to replace the desire for blood. I say that, to say that in the movies the hunger always wins right? Corny, I know, but nonetheless true. The hunger will always win because it's as natural as breathing. You have to eat, no way around it. So go on all these crazy diets if you want, but when your ready to really, really make a difference in your weight and health you'll realize that it is a complete lifestyle change. You'll see when you cross that bridge.
This is gets very overwhelming for me sometimes, too. I'm just a normal “Jane Doe”. I'm a twenty-five year old married mother of two, a five-year old and a two-year old. My hubby is always on over the road. I work full-time and still have to find energy and time in between cooking, cleaning, homework, bath time, reading time, etc to exercise. I had an emergency c-section that tore me apart. My stomach muscles even after two years just aren't the same and I struggle with my core all the time. I say start of with one thing at a time. For instance, start with smaller portion sizes for a few weeks. Then move on to incorporating more veggies and fruits. After a few weeks of that, add in the exercise but do not overwhelm yourself or you'll end up quitting. Transition slowly and then gain momentum and add on according to your desires.
My Healthy Lifestyle Regimen
As I said in the beginning I have been eating healthier and experimenting with green smoothies for a few months now.
I exercise about 3-4 times a week. I use a DVD schedule that I made (13+ DVDs and several different workouts to mix it up) along with an elliptical machine. I motivate myself and include my children. I'm beginning to see my hubby come around and have an interest in getting his 360+ lbs in check.
Do not forget Cardio exercise, You need to condition your heart and cardio is what is going to burn the most calories and shed the fat.
I drink at least 64oz daily. The amount of water you drink is widely debatable so I just stick with two mandatory jugs. I have a 32oz water bottle that I fill up twice daily and I can't drink any other type of beverage until I've had all of the water throughout the day. This is extremely difficult for me so I reward myself. Once I get down to the 16oz mark I allow myself to mix one of the flavor packs to it. It's my own little incentive.
I take multivitamins.
I don't eat breakfast. It messes with my stomach. I will usually have a mid-morning snack (granola bar, yogurt parfait, etc.) I have a mid-afternoon snack also(trail mix, usually home made, granola bar, sometimes I will finish up my lunch or some other light snack)
I try to have a salad with every meal before I dig into the rest of my food. I remember the size of my stomach and I never force myself to eat just because there's food still on my plate. If I have food leftover that I never touched I'll take it for lunch, no need to waste it. If you recognize when your full it will become easier for you to control your portion sizes while fixing your plate.
I eat slowly unless I'm starving :) A lot of times when I eat fast (as in inhaling food), I end up eating a heck of a lot more food. I look down and I've eaten a whole bag of something or I'm sitting here feeling full and miserable because I didn't stop and rushed.
My cheat day is Saturday. When I first created my cheat day I thought I would go crazy and cancel out all of my hard work during the week on this one day, but the more I got into my lifestyle change I realized how important the outcome was for me and even though it is a cheat day I am still programmed to have self-control.
I do not count calories. I do, however, look at serving sizes and sodium intake. I get dehydrated very easily and it causes other issues with me that aren't so pleasant so I watch my sodium and water intake.
Last but not least, I am part of a fitness challenge at my place of employment that officially starts February 4th , 2010. I got measured and I even wanted to show you semi-starter pics but there isn't a good enough reason to convince hubby that I need to be on here showing the goods, lol! Maybe I'll take a couple of pics throughout this journey. Anyway the participants are all measured and pinched. I had no idea that I had a lot of fat until I walked out of that place. She was pinching my skin, it was funny and a teeny, tiny bit embarrassing. The challenge ends in August/September 2010. It is about losing body fat percentage, most inches lost, most weight lost, etc. There are several categories and a winner or two for each category. We were all weighed and measured and will have another weight assessment in March.
So these are my measurements:
Weight:167
Height: 5'5''
Goal Weight: 155( I like my curves. I'm here to tone. I enjoy my thickness, but I was happy at this weight)
Biceps: 12”
Bust: 37”
Waist: 32” (I really would like to get back to 27-29”)
Hips: 44”
Thighs: 25”
Trail Mix-very simple
3 cups almonds- non-salted
1 cup or less of everything else
Hydratherma Naturals(HN) Amino Plus, Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment
Hydratherma Naturals(HN) Amino Plus, Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment
HN Sample Pack-2oz $25
http://www.healthyhairjourney.com/
Dates of Usage: 1/1/2010- 1/24/2010
Product Description:
This deep protein conditioning treatment strengthens the hair and prevents breakage. With just one use, you will see and feel a difference. This treatment contains an exceptional and unique complex of structurizing proteins, all of different molecular weights. These proteins penetrate deep within the hair shaft producing benefits like no single protein can. Enriched with 10 amino acids, vitamins and botanical extracts. Strengthens each hair strand and protects the hair from harsh weather. Also provides sunscreen protection. Your hair will look and feel terrific. Superb for all hair types. For best results, use with other Hydratherma Naturals brand products.
Directions:
Shampoo hair with Hydratherma Naturals shampoo of choice. Gently towel blot hair and saturate hair with conditioner from root to tip. Cover head with plastic cap and sit under warm dryer for 10-20 minutes then rinse with warm water. You may comb through with wide tooth comb before rinsing out the treatment to gently remove tangles.If unable to deep condition under dryer apply a warm towel to your head after applying a plastic cap and leave on for at least 15 minutes. Follow with Hydratherma Naturals Moisture / Protein Balance Leave-In Conditioner. For best results, alternate Hydratherma Naturals, Amino Plus Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment with Hydratherma Naturals, Moisture Boosting Deep Conditioner weekly.
My Experience:
The scent reminds me of the "Baked Beans" candy I used to eat as a child. I know sounds gross, they were actually pretty good and they were really roasted peanuts with a hardened candy crust. Anyway, it has a really creamy texture. I found this dc to do exactly what it says it would do. It added strength to my hair without the drying or stiffness that protein dc's can add. Again, I am pleased, but honestly I was kind of expecting wow!!! from these products. My experience with the HN line is getting better so I look forward to trying my other samples.
I would use this product again, I don't guess I would buy it as a staple, but it did exactly what it was supposed to do. It was just blah and I already have a protein dc in mind that I compare my others to and this one doesn't beat my Joico. I'm not sure there are any out there that can beat Joico KPAK and Motions CPR, but b/c I have so many products in my pj stash I will use each and every one of my products up.
STAPLE STATUS: No
Ingredients:
Water/Aqua, Cetyl Alcohol, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Stearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Panthenol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Spirulina Maxima Extract, Silk Amino Acids, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Retinyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Phytonadione, Pyridoxine HCL, Biotin, Sodium PCA, Betaine, Sorbitol, Glycine, Alanine, Proline, Serine, Threonine, Arginine, Lysine, Glutamic Acid, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Panax Ginseng Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Fragrance/Parfum, Methyl Gluceth-10, PEG-45M, Triethanolamine, Citric Acid, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone. It restores and moisturizes the hair fibers, giving your hair the vitamins and brightness that it loses when tinted. It makes your hair soft, bright, gentle and easy to comb. This formula gets these effects because of the minerals, nutrients, oils and vitamins extracted from honey and almond."-Verbatim off bottle
Directions:
Wash hair with Honey and Almond Shampoo. Apply Honey and Almond Treatment while massaging. Allow it to work for 2 to 3 minutes depending on hair conditions, rinse.
My Experience:
This product is pink in color. It has a floral, artificial honey-type of scent. It wasn't overwhelming, yet I still had to get used to it b/c it lingers and to me it was reminiscent of a pissy diaper. IDK, maybe the artificial honey scent.
Anyhow, on to it's use. This dc left my hair with a thick feel, possibly due to the lanolin. It also gave me amazing slip, I'm sure not moisture but great slip. It was great with and without heat. At first I thought it was moisture until I noticed how dry my hair would be a few days later, leaving me to dry dc and cowash, which I haven't done in awhile.
This product is difficult to find and is now discontinued, no surprise. The 16oz jar was discontinued when I ordered so they shipped me 2-8oz jars. I knew then that this would not be something I would restock due to product security. Nonetheless, I liked this product, it was okay. How could I say that? Well, during the wash there was no damage to my hair, and after the wash I could m&s properly to counteract the dryness so I only noticed the extra dryness after a braid out. It wasn't really all that bad for a non-staple dc.
The ingredients are really nothing special. There are lots of big, "no-no" ingredients, yet it wasn't a horrible experience. Would I recommend this product? No, as someone who doesn't really care about ingredients, I was quite offended by this ingredient list, too much of the wrong stuff and not enough of the advertised ingredients.
STAPLE STATUS: NO
Ingredients:
Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Petroleum, Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Chloride(Softening/antistatic agent), Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Mineral Oil, Methyl Paraben, Lanolin, D&C #6, D&C #5, Almond Essence Oil, Fragrance
UP NEXT: Silk Elements Mega Cholesterol Conditioning Treatment
***I actually have one more moisture dc after this one to try and review and then I am finished with looking for my staple moisture dc's.***
DISCLAIMER- I am in no way affiliated with any of the aforementioned products. Well I'm relaxing and truth is, don't we all have a long way 2 grow in so many more ways than just one(hair). Well, I've decided that I am also going to share my quest to a greater more fulfilled life with GOD, my health, and my family.
We have been in Texas collectively for about 6+ yrs and the children and I have been to church collectively throughout the entire time about 2 months total, again not consistently. I feel that my life is definitely missing GOD. I miss him, however I still remember being burned out. Does anyone remember Steve Harvey's joke about going to church any and every time the doors were open for Sunday school, prayer meets, sleep in, bible school, vacation school, youth board, usher board, choir practice, praise team, revivals, well that was me all the way. Now don't get me wrong I love church and fellowship and I miss it dearly but unlike a yr ago, I want to start off slow with involvement and make sure that I am in the right "toolbox" (church) so that the Lord can use me(I'm but a tool for the Lord) according to his will. I have been invited to church by many of my patients and I kid you not, I had a whole week where it seemed like every other patient kept giving me hints about going to church. Funny thing was, they all kept saying the same thing, " Don't put your life/job/hubby/children before GOD". I heard this endlessly and had too many church invites that I didn't know which one to choose. Shamefully, I haven't been to any of them. Nevertheless, I knew it was GOD talking to me. Why else would these people who know nothing about this friendly face at their appointment come out of the blue to tell me these things. We're planning on going this Sunday so pray for us as I pray that the Lord will lead us and anyone else seeking him to a church family they can call home.
Hair/ Health Update- Jan. 8th 2010
<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; I am so sick of trying to hunt a good stylist down. It’s like I have bad luck with stylists. One of my favorites got pregnant, moved her shop and then increased the price of a relaxer from $55 to $90 and told me that when I do long stretches(in her opinion anything past 6 weeks) it would cost extra. So, NEXT!!!! Really nice lady, results nice, but not as great as I expected them to be. I didn’t have the fresh from the salon-look going on when I left. It was above average, but still quite average. The next person was my absolute favorite, but he no longer does hair FT so availability has now become an issue. So long story short, I’ll be doing them myself from now on. Heck, I’ve been doing my own since I was 14yrs old. It has been the last year that I have been venturing out to find someone worthy of doing my chemical treatments.
2)      HEALTH: I haven’t had that many smoothies lately b/c I’ve been too cheap to buy any fruit. I’ll probably go buy some this weekend
3)
EXERCISE: I organized all of my favorite and most challenging fitness DVD’s 2 days ago. I made an excel spreadsheet with 7 columns (days of the week) and 5 rows (wks). I think filled up the spreadsheets with all of the many workouts. For me this works great because now I have an “inmyface” plan. I planned it out carefully dividing them into Cardio, Fitness Quickies (20mins or less), Strength Training and Balance & Flexibility. From here I determined that I want to work out a max of 3-4days a week given my 19lbs goal. The more challenging workouts I do only 3 times a week and the others, 4 days or so. I throw in a fitness quickie on rest days- 10-20min Pilates or a 10 min abs routine.
Each sheet is a 2 month rotation, for example Jan. & Feb, Mar. & Apr. and so on. I wanted to do this to give my body variety and also so I wouldn’t get bored or only pick my favorites. I go week by week. No two weeks are the same; I wanted every week to be different.  My rest days are never the same. Sometimes, I workout back-to-back and other weeks the days will be spread out. My food cheat day is Saturday, yet I still add on a few weekend workout days.
This has helped me exponentially because ‘whenever I felt like exercising’ meant that I missed quite a few days. Not to mention, it takes the guessing out of which DVD I want to do.
H2T Stick 2 It Challenge Comes to an End
I completed my last wash of this yr last Sat. so this is the end of this challenge for me/Throughout this challenge I have learned various things about my hair. I will tell you the benefits of this particular challenge.
1 I was able to use up products. As a pj in rehab this is a great thing. CHECK OUT REVIEWS
2 I was able to see which products my hair preferred and how my hair preferred these products. a) My hair doesn't really like cream leave-ins while air drying. Better used as a moisturizer.
b) While serums help me to detangle my NG growth they also aid in keeping my textured styles dry. I should have known this. The very nature of serum isn't moisture.
3 I was able to see the immediate and somewhat, long-term effects of certain techniques and methods.
a) I was very low manipulation throughout this challenge. I am usually low mani but this time I was comb-less for 3 out of 4 weeks. I wore a tucked French braid, twist out and braid out and I only comb my hair on wash day. Example: I would lightly moisturize and seal, gently pin up my style, cover with scarf. I finger combed the next morning.
b) I was low mani as I mentioned several time, but I have been cool air blow drying since my relaxer in Oct. I was under processed in some sections so alot of my hair drying ideas went right out the window. Cool air drying has kept my hair manageable amongst this 3-4 texture jungle I have up there.
c) During this challenge I fell in love with protective styling again. I have purchased more hair candy and I will up my hair's protection. 2010 is going to be a year of change for me in my house, in my professional career and also in my haircare. I plan to accomplish lots of goals this year, mainly Full APL/BSL. :)
d) During the midst of this challenge I finished up the CO challenge and I was very pleased with the thickness. Castor Oil has been in my regimen for more than a yr and it will continue to play a large part in my product regimen.
December 2009- PJ Inventory
Styling Products
Tresemme 24 Hour Body Mousse
Isoplus 24 Hour Hold Spray
Isoplus Light Mink Oil Sheen
CHI Silk Infusion
FHI Heat Hot Sauce
CHI 44 Iron Guard Spray
CHI Straight Guard
Garnier Fructis Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk
Hairveda Almond Glaze
BlackNSassy Style Smoother
FX Silk Drops
FX Flat Iron Spray
CHI Deep Brilliance Hair & A very rich and abundant serum. I have been using this serum exclusively for the last year 16+ months and I still have half a bottle left. This serum has a sweet scent to it, not overwhelming. It has lasting shine. Now my hair is pretty healthy so I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes as far as the shine lasting. I love this all throughout the relaxer cycle. I normally apply this after detangling with a spray leave in. I apply anywhere from a pea-size amount to a quarter-size amount depending on how I plan to style. If I am flat ironing, I find that I only need to use a little. If I am air drying, wet setting or ponytail drying I will add a larger amount. It helps me when I am air drying and keeps my hair from frizzing up. If I apply this prior to a wet set I have dazzling shine. When my NG is giving me the blues during long stretches I will sometimes dab extra to my NG and smooth it with a comb very gently. It really helps when I need an extra detangling boost.
STAPLE STATUS: Yes
Ingredients: Cyclomethicone, Dimethiconol, Silk Amino Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Grape Seed Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Fragrance, Dioctyl Sebacate.
Up Next: CHI Silk Infusion
DISCLAIMER- Whether my review is good, bad or downright ugly, I am in no way affiliated with any of the aforementioned products. Set or style as directed.
My Experience:
At first I was a little apprehensive about this leave in. Clearly it is and at first glance you notice it is a protein product mainly because of its restorative claims and ingredients. The whole Motions CPR line is mainly protein-laden products. Well so far, my hair really likes the CPR line. The regular Motions line for some reason would leave build up on my scalp and leave it itchy and nasty.Any how a member of one of the hair boards I frequent was selling this so I figured I'd give it a try. Well as a leave in, it sucked. Not a total loss for me because my hair doesn't really like cream leave ins. The best use for a cream leave in for my hair is as a moisturizer so that is exactly how I used it. I moisturize my hair nightly with this product and sealed with oils. It really made a difference in the strength of my hair and was surprisingly moisturizing. My hair liked this combo even though it is supposedly a protein product. This is a great example of why I am not super crazy about ingredients because my hair, apparently isn't very picky about ingredients.
Staple Status: Yes, if I don't find better
Ingredients: Water(Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Glyceryl Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Silk, Polysorbate 80, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Diazolidinyl Urea, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl, Methyl Propional, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool Fragrance(Parfum)
Up Next: Lady Fior Olive Oil Leave In
DISCLAIMER- Whether my review is good, bad or downright ugly, I am in no way affiliated with any of the aforementioned products. It gives great slip within the early weeks post relaxer. Once I reached 7 wks post it made my hair really soft but it didn't relax my NG well. Surprisingly I didn't have to use alot of product during the application process to get the desired effect. It has a medicinal smell, kinda herb scent. I like it. I didn't really have high expectations of this product after trying the shampoo's but this product really shocked me. I am so anxious to try the Amino Protein Treatment considering that I hear that it's a staple for many. I haven't heard one bad review about that product yet and I have been researching these products for a year or so.
So to summarize, my only qualms are that: 1)1 It is not readily available and the shipping was like two weeks with no tracking or shipping confirmation and 2) It works best for me only in the early stages of my relaxer cycle
Staple Status: Unsure-I don't say this often.
Ingredients: Water/Agua, Cetyl Alcohol,Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis(Orange) Oil, Dimethicone, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Glycerin, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, PEG-45M, Lavandula Angustifolia(Lavendar) Oil, Methyl Gluceth-10, Sea Kelp Extract, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Algae Extract, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil, Passiflora Incarnata Seed Oil, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Caramel, Citric Acid, Triethanolamine, Tocopheryl Acetate, Methylisothiazolinone, Methylchloroisothiazolinone.
Up Next: 809 Estrella Honey & Almond with Lanolin Treatment
DISCLAIMER- Whether my review is good, bad or downright ugly, I am in no way affiliated with any of the aforementioned products. Shining & Conditioning Gel (Regular Hold) 4.4oz
Date of Usage: Since Middle School, so about 12+ yrs
Product Claims: The new excitement for hair! Sleek it, slick it, shine it, define it! NO wax, NO grease, No alcohol, just pure fun that conditions as you style.
Directions: Apply small amount into the palm of your hand, rub hands together. Work through wet or dry hair. Style as desired. Avoid eye contact.
My experience: I felt that in some ways this product kept up to it's promises. This is hard for me b/c this has been my go to gel for years and it still could be, but I was let down by this product and b/c of my product security issues I don't want to let it go only to find there isn't anything better.(Note:I am looking into EcoStyler Gel)
It does and it did lay edges down, however, I noticed that during long stretches or in the summer heat it just seems greasy and doesn't keep my edges smooth. It does impart a shine that after a few minutes tends to seem a little greasy. This gel is better for me in the winter, but truth is I don't search for or even plan to keep and restock "seasonal" products. It was fun and fruit-scented while it lasted(smells like strawberries), but this is where I venture out for a gel that will do what it says no matter the weather, literally. I'm in Texas so heat is my biggest problem and it is quite embarrassing, not to mention tacky when your gel makes your face greasy. I hate it.
I will say that this gel tames the nape very, very well. I will also say that I used this gel, just a light dab before a twist out or braid out and it provided shine and hold. I would use this and other gels because I am not a fan of spritz and setting sprays. Medium/heavy protein depending on use and if you add egg to treatment.Has a soapy scent. Has tiny specks of herbs.
Product Claims:The intensive reconstructive conditioning treatment moisturizes and helps strengthen damaged and over processed hair. Each strand is bathed in a rich melange of essential oils, amino acids and vitamin B5 to moisturize and to help strengthen. From the first application of Hair Mayonnaise, fragile hair will be rejuvenated with moisture and elasticity to aid in mending split ends and providing incredible body and shine.
WEEKLY CONDITIONING DIRECTIONS:
1)Shampoo hair with ORS Uplifting Shampoo. Rinse thoroughly and towel blot.
2)Place Hair Mayonnaise into palm of hand. Rub hands together and gently massage hair. Comb hair to ensure even coverage of hair shaft
3)Cover hair with plastic cap and let process under a warm hair dryer for 15 minutes.
4)Rinse hair thoroughly with warm water and proceed with styling.
INTENSIVE CONDITIONING DIRECTIONS:
For severely damaged hair, add (1) egg to Hair Mayonnaise in a bowl and mix well. Apply to towel-dried hair and cover head with a plastic cap. Let conditioner sit on hair for 1-2 hours(DO NOT USE DRYER). Rinse hair thoroughly with warm water and proceed with styling.
I felt that this product definitely stood up to its claims. I never used it with an egg, so if you have let me know how it went. My hair felt fuller and stronger with repeated use. I tried it as a dc only. My main purpose when purchasing this product awhile ago was for a prepoo. I didn't want to miss out on the dc experience if I prepoo'd and b/c I am not repurchasing anything anytime soon, I try to make the best of what I have. It's a truly great dc. I like the strength, but for me I found that using it even every other week was too much. I had to go for every 3rd/4th wash with this product. I am kind of, almost comparing this to my beloved Motions CPR Treatment Conditioner. The main difference being that my beloved is a light protein and can be used weekly. This one could possibly be a cheaper alternative to my Joico DPR. I must say that it wasn't great on slip, but that ended up being fine. My hair wasn't really tangled or matted it just wasn't buttery. I would definitely repurchase this product. WOuld it be a first choice staple,no. This a back-up staple for me. Who knows when I get down to nothing which I am very close to I will repurchase this and the Motions CPR Treatment Conditioner to compare and see which one I like better. Motions gave me great slip and was cheaper, but the herbs were harder to rinse out.
P.S. Yes, this can be purchased at your local BSS. I was ordering my entire wishlist at the time I purchased this so I figured might as well get it shipped to me. It was maybe $2 more expensive this way than just driving down the street.
STAPLE: Yes, 2nd Place, though
Ingredients: Water(Agua), Polyquaternium 32, Glycerine, Safflower Oil(Carthamus Tinctorius), Hydrolyzed Collagen, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Olive Oil(Olea Europaea), Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Lanolin, Dimethicone, Phenyl Triemthicone, Panthenol(Vitamin B5), Cholesterol, Stinging Nettle(Urtica Dioica), Capsicum Extract(Paprika), Hydrolyzed Keratin, Egg Powder(Ovum), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Propylene Glycol, DMDM Hydantoin (AND) Diazolidinyl Urea (AND) Methyl Paraben (AND) Propyl Paraben, Brown #1(CI 20170), Fragrance(Parfum), Benzyl Benzoate, D'Limonene, Linalool, Alphaisomethylionone.
UP NEXT: Hydratherma Naturals Amino Plus,Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment
DISCLAIMER- Whether my review is good, bad or downright ugly, I am in no way affiliated with any of the aforementioned products. Purchased it from Vitamin Shoppe. I 16oz. bottle for like $7 or so. It is the only Castor oil I've tried. I'm curious about JBCO, but not enough to buy it and pay the ridiculous shipping. I have actually been using Castor Oil for alot longer than the H2T challenge. I started using it during Sunshyne's first C/O Challenge. I used pure C/O my first C/O challenge. This time I used a mixture of C/O and my pre-mixed oils. I finished using up the C/O 11/30. I know the benefits of C/O so I won't be joining another challenge of this kind. I've kept C/O in my regimen since about 12/08. I had to back track through my blogs because I knew it's been awhile.I wasn't as consistent with use until my first challenge and now I'm happy I stuck with it.
So onto the pics:Not sure why they posted backwards, but any who.
1st 2 pics today and yesterday
3rd pic -Halfway through challenge 11/14/09
4th and 5th pic 10.24.09 right after relaxer and big snip
Stick2ItChallenge Update
2 wks down and 2 wks to go.....
I have been reading a few great comments pertaining to this challenge. I'm curious now, how's it going for everyone? How are the products or techniques going?
I realized that my hair loves the cool air blow drying.I am really, really gonna stick to the cool air drying technique. I get sleek results without the heat and normally I've airdried a little so it really doesn't take as long. Not to mention, it is a healthier alternative to keeping my underprocessed sections in check.
So far, I haven't had any issues with my MN/MT mix being put on 3-5x a week.
I am loving the no comb weeks, where I fingercomb mainly. Last week I rocked the same twistout the entire week just by pinning it up and fluffing it in the morning. I styled it differently but I didn't comb for an entire week. I also did a tucked french braid that I kept up neat every 3 days, the prior week. Oh and also, I don't know why I ever stopped M+S in sections. Will not be giving this up anytime soon.
Hair Today- December 7th,09
I am secretly a part of a healthy ends challenge as well.
I have a pj inventory coming up at the end of this month.
I have a length check coming up on the 20Th to end the CO challenge.
I plan to relax Jan 9th 2010. I am currently 6 weeks and will be around 11 weeks at the time of relaxing.
I have a new product line that I am getting so anxious to try. I will post it later on. I just want to research it more before I send a whole bunch of pj's into a frenzy. It's the only thing on my wish list that I would give up all of my success for. I have to stay away from it online b/c I am always tempted to buy it.
I also plan stay away from combing too much. I do different styles weekly and just refresh and remix it the each day and don't comb it until wash day.Sometimes, I will cut a style short and bun or french braid, but I like refreshing and remixing a twist out/braid out or curls.
I am a part of the stick2it challenge on Hair2Toe.ning.com. It is a short challenge to help some of us with our consistency. Alot of my fellow members are focusing on products and so am I, but I am more concerned with consistency in techniques. I am in pj rehab and using up products so to just use this challenge in regards to products isn't going to be sufficient for me. I will use the same products, but I will try the same detangling, setting, styling techniques for this entire month.
COURTESY OF H2T-STICK2IT CHALLENGE RULES:
Rules to the challenge!! Dec 1 - Jan 1, 2010!OK ladies, here's the skinny!
The key to this challenge is consistency! You are free to style your hair as you wish and wash as often as you like, however you should be consistent as possible.
It is understood that heat regimens and cowash/air dry regimens can vary with different products, however whatever you choose, you have to stick to it.
Rules:
~ Full wash days must be consistent (every 5 days, every 7 days, etc)
~ Cowash days must be consistent (once/wk, twice/wk, etc.)
~ Products per regimen must be consistent (full wash products vs. cowash/air dry products, etc.)
~ Vitamins/supplements must remain consistent in dosage and frequency.
You cannot:
~ Switch products within the same regimen (ex. use one shampoo then another when you run out) So make sure to stock up!
Goals
~ Allow our products to have an effect on our hair and scalp.
~ Gain discipline in sticking with products.
~ Document any changes during the challenge, positive or negative.
~ Find out how each product we commit to works with our hair and other products.
Exceptions:
~ ONE pass to switch products that are negatively affecting your progress. By keeping your products consistent, it should be easier to tell what is not working for you.
OK ladies, let's STICK 2 IT!
